Default Guys from up north

How do you deal with all the rusting on your trucks? I turned a pair of rotors that were only on a car for a year, but was from up north, and wow those things looked horrible. There were flakes of metal coming out of the inside and so much nasty rust all over it.

I would be afraid to take my truck out of the garage with all that snow and salt all over the place.

If the rotors are rusting that badly in the cooling fins, we usually replace them. Usually lasts for 5-6 years or so.

Rust just adds to the fun of auto repair. In fact, we're so used to it that we don't even think about it. Penetrating lube, blue-tip wrench, or BFH are always nearby.

to tell you the truth man, the ss doesnt have a spec of rust showing but canadian winters in the prairies are a bitch. the salt on the roads suck so much, you gotta wash your truck always. hopefully gonna get an old beater to rip around in. the snow aint that bad actually, its the salt that f's you over. just make sure you blast all the water out of your door jams and handles or you aint gettin in your truck the next day hahah

Haha I really think I'd be so afraid to drive it that it'd never leave the garage. I couldn't imagine doing a brake job or any kind of serious suspension work on a car from up north.

Im not very far north, but imo your either working on something relatively new and easy. Or something older where nothing goes right and heat with penetrating lube is your friend. Oh also you learn quick to wear glasses and keep your mouth shut, or you end up with some extra iron content in your diet..
Is what it is i suppose..
Makes us overall better drivers imo having to drive in the snow a little every once in awhile..

My one year old Cal-Tracs look like hell.......

No rust on the body/paint of the truck though.

I cry myself to sleep when I think of how rotted my drivers side rocker panel is. Luckily it's covered in bedliner for the time being.

Already had to replace the cab corner, and strip the rear half of the frame and cover it in POR15. Also had a brake line and a ******* diff cover rot through.
