Highway Patrol....Question
Is anyone on this site a highway patrolman? I just had a few questions I wanted to ask someone who was. Lol no I didn't get a ticket, I am just thinking about it as a profession and was just wanted to ask some questions. Oh and preferably someone from NC but it can be whoever. Thanks,
Joseph

You might wanna check in Tech in the regional section. I have always been told that if you wanted to go into law enforcement, set up a "ride along" with the agency of your choice. Just a few suggestions

Military background would probably help a lot. You could do both, something like air force national guard were your chances of going to hadjiville is very low, and you only do 1 weekend a month / 2 weeks a year. With that you could get the academy payed for, plus money on the side. When I was in school it was partly payed for, and I got money on the side, but I'm in the Army reserves not national guard, guard gets full tuition. Since your in NC there might be coast guard bases close by, could do coast guard reserve (if it exists). The best you could do is go to a state patrol post or find a trooper and talk to him.

Yea, with militay experience you stand a good chance for a LEO job. I served five years with Coast Guard and was a Federal Maritime Boarding Officer. Military law enforcement is what they are looking for...

Get ready to direct a lot of traffic and be bored out of your mind. Every 18 months or so, something cool might happen and you'll have a story to tell. In GA it's minimum 2 years law enforcement, 4 year military, or a 4 year college degree for entrance, and it pays 3-5k less per year than most local/county agencies. Still a fun job if you have a drive for it though, I'm just jaded.

yea well its not set in stone yet. I am just weighing my options b/w the city police dept., the sherrif's, or highway patrol. I did a ride along with a city PD this past weekend and had a good time. Right now I am kind of leaning towards the local departments.
