http://dot.etec.wwu.edu/fsae/v30/v30pics.html
Western Washington University, Formula SAE
there is a video of it runnin above the pictures
Yes it did run, no they did not get to compete at our competition since it didnt have its own starter, they ran it on the dyno tho and it puked a connecting rod....there Industral tech not engineers, but its still sooo cool. They also took the stock 6 speed bike tranny and build a transaxel around it. The heads on the engine are off a stock motorcycle

Very cool, but why just a 554cc?? Make at least a 1000-1500cc if your going to go through all that trouble.
I saw something really similar when I was at UW Madison's engineering department about 3 years ago. They have a racing class to compete with other schools with 400-600cc motorcycle engines, the trick is they all have to suck air through a certain size diameter or area intake.
The intake can be anything before or after the restriction but the restriction size must be maintained. Whoever gets the thing to run best with whatever mods done to engine and or intake/exhaust from what they showed me.
I love the picture of the MAD PROFESSOR looking over his pupils work!!
Not quite as much work into these but the same ideas.
(Excluding the car engine TURDS)

our compeition is limited to 610ccs, so thats why they went with that size, we also have to suck thru a 20mm restrictor, thats all 4 cylinders thru one 20mm hole. Teams can turbocharge but the turbo is between the engine and the restirctor, so you have a lot of trouble with the oil gettting sucked out of the turbo seals...some pull it of, many dont. We run a Honda CBR 600 F2 for our car, seen here:
