Since someone mentioned a turbo...
Most people would agree that a GMC blower (roots type) is a supercharger. But a lot of people don't think a turbo is a supercharger. Of course it is. And yes, a belt driven centrifugal blower (Paxton, Procharger, etc...) is also a supercharger.

Pretty much anything that provides forced induction is a supercharger. In fact the full name for a turbo is a "turbosupercharger". Then people shortened it to "turbocharger", now everyone just calls them "turbos".
Find your nearest online dictionary and look up "turbosupercharger". While there you could also look up "supercharger". Here's a good online dictionary... http://dictionary.reference.com/
Some people will argue forever that a turbo is not a supercharger. It's so common to call a GMC roots style blower a "supercharger" that people have grown to believe it's the only thing that is a supercharger and other types of forced induction are something else. But of course they are all superchargers. If you refer to a turbo as a type of supercharger some folks will think you're wrong.
It's so common now that it's really just best left alone. But it doesn't change the fact that forced induction is supercharging, it doesn't matter how it's done.
