I say quit being politically correct. Until motor oils start calling themselves engine oils, just get used to it. All these leading brand engine oils refer themselves to motor oil. http://www.amsoil.com/comparison/motor-oil.aspx http://www.castrol.com/castrol/castr...alhomeflash.do http://www.royalpurple.com/motor-oil.html http://www.conocophillipslubricants....d/Default.aspx http://www.redlineoil.com/products.aspx http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...s/Mobil_1.aspx http://www.valvoline.com/

Engine is a subset of motor.
Purely acceptable either way. It's just whatever way you were raised.
BTW, electric motors are one thing, but can't you also have AIR motors? Or is it air engine? hah!

Chemical energy can be considered electrical energy. During the combustion process, physics is forcing chemicals to interact, and change. When they change, protons and electrons are moving and trading electrical charges and lots of other stuff. Therefore an engine is nothing more than an over complicated electrical motor.
I only half believe that crap I just wrote. I was just in the mood for a little word masturbation.

That bothers the **** out of me too, but the sad thing about it...if you say "engine" to some people, they look at you like your stupid because they've always known it as a motor.... I can say that is one of my top pet peive's also.

well speaking of trains, those have diesel engines, which act as generators for electric motors and store charge in batteries for the electric motors. its like a subway line where the train gets its power from the tracks, but its self contained. also have regenerative braking, like on a hybrid car. bjones can explain further.
