just proves that they dont make them like they used to. the only bad thing about this drill is if you use it for long periods of time it gets hot as a mother! but that only happened to me when i was polishing the wheels with it. it will twist your arm off! old craftsman

i got 1 side of the valve reliefs done last night. its gut wrenching on the first cut, but after 2 or 3 cuts it's not too bad. just tedious trying to keep it clean and having to pull the heads 4 times to get the job done. while moving the cut valves over each time. this is what the cutter looks like. sliced these pistons like butter.

waiting on an oil pan gasket, manifold gaskets, 2 ls7 lifters and the motor will be done. hoping to pull the engine this weekend, get the converter re stalled next week and have it in next weekend.

How do you know how deep to go making the valve reliefs?

well since he said he had to take off/put on the the heads 4 times, i assume you cut and test, cut and test, cut and test.... but also he had a measuring tool on one of the pics. just my guess from the info i see

he had to take the heads off 4 times to move the cutters to the next cylinder.

im sure you just measure the valve lift and then add your desired tolerance and thats about it...

theres a stop collar that you slip over each valve stem. you slip in the feeler guage combo that measures to the thickness that you want to cut and lock that stop clooar down with an allen wrench. (stuff the feeler guage between the top of the valve guide and the stop collar.

this is done while the cutter is sitting on top of the piston while at TDC. that's how you get the exact cut on every piston
