Ive built several and never had a problem except one, i burnt the barrel out on my Delton rifle... $100 and back goin again, but the bullets dont hit sideways now... IT only took me 4 years tho. It shot good, 5-6" groups at 300yds with irons using cheap Tula ammo.
My latest build is a AR in 6.8spc, with a match poly 3 groove 16" barrel. Got a head shot on a tweety bird yesterday at 100yds
I have a AK47 and i have 4 or 5 AR15s.. I always take the ARs when i go out, The AK is ok but its not exactly accurate so it stays at the house where the longest shot is gonna be 100yds. Ive never had a problem out of any of my ARs, you gotta run them wet. Mobil 1 SYN 5w-30 thats left over after a oil change last a long time and cleans up easy.

I pretty much did the same as your doing scott. Got mostly everything from J and J armory over here in cali when I built my ar15. Also Just pick me up an AR-10 lower. Gotta love a .308 on the ar platform

If cost is your worry then you could always hand load. As prices sit right now, I can load custom match grade rounds for my rifle for $8 per 20 rounds. For a 5.56, it would be a whole hell of a lot cheaper.

Yeah it is expensive at first. You'll have to forgive me, but I fire anywhere from 300-700 rounds every week out of my rifle. If I didn't reload, the cost of ammo would be astronomical.
