Killed another 4l60e
I had a shop build up a 4L60E (edit 4L65E) 2 years ago and with mostly city driving and a couple of passes at the track the trans gave up.
Luckily I made it up to Hot August Nights and back without any real issue and then I went out to get some breakfast for the wife and kids and this is what happened.
Any ideas on why this would happen? My truck around 415hp and I just figured I would have killed the internals before I destroyed the tailshaft. I guess it pays to get the hardened input and tailshaft.

415hp in a ~5000lb truck and your surprised you took out a 60E? I mean carnage looks bad and I can't say that I saw that being the first thing to fail but it doesn't really surprise me.

Thats what I have heard about breaking shafts is the hard shifts. I think thats why one of our sponsors doesn't use billet shafts is because they really arn't needed unless you want teeth cracking shifts.......I could be wrong though. That sucks though man!
Just noticed something. Did you break a 4l60e or a 4l65e? Your sig shows you had a built 65e.

It's a level 3 4L65E from Xtreme Transmission. It didn't have too harsh of a 1-2 shift unless I really mashed on it and even then the pressure tables were close to stock so it wasn't a neck breaker. I guess the weight of the truck (5100 last time i weighed her) and descent traction took its toll. I cant say I was being nice to it when it let go but didn’t have it floored either. I'll probably consider a billet tailshaft next time I do an FI application but for now I’m just going to see what Johnny can do with this tranny and pull the supercharger off. As much fun as it’s been I need to quit breaking my DD.

I have seen two of these break before in 4l60e's with approx 450rwtq and tight converters.. IMO a looser converter really helps these transmissions live with a good cooler.
Things I would look at with your setup...look into the billet output, look at the 2nd gear servo..is it billet? if so maybe swap for the corvette servo for a softer 1-2 shift. Make sure 2ng gear feed hole isn't bigger then .093.
Replace the forward sprag, and make sure the input drum has the sonnax sleeve kit with billet forward piston. I also like the wide rear sun gear bushing, and the wide rear stator support bushing.
OR...4l80E swap
