Default Need advice here

So, I've always wanted to build a sick truck, and now I finally have some money to play with. Just really need some input on ideas and what to do and where to go here. I really want to build a turbo truck. My current setup is just a bone stock 04 ecsb. It's my daily driver so right now I'm just getting ideas and stuff together to do the swap this summer when I'm not in school. Was thinking of a turbo 370 or 408, don't really know which one would be the most bang for your buck but would like to make somewhere around 800 hp and still be very streetable. I've looked on craigslist for engine blocks and such and also sites such as TSP at their short and long blocks, so which would be the cheaper route to go? Build my own engine or just buy a short/long block? Also I realize I have to do a 4l80 swap, would it be better just to get one already built or just have a junkyard tranny built? And I probably would also need a better rear end, something like a 14 bolt. So where do I start on this build? Any advice is appreciated. Yes, it's my first build. I'm a mechanical engineering student and would think a 800hp truck would look pretty damn good on a resume

IMO go 370, from seeing dyno's it would seem they do very well, are damn close to the same numbers as 408. Not to mention you can build them cheaper because you do not need to have a new crank and such. A 70 will def get you to the 800 mark if it is built with the rite parts, you won't really be pushing it super hard to get there..Your stock rear will more then likely be fine, with a added diff girdle, a new center section.

Why so much?
Don't get me wrong i love horsepower but 800 ponies is going to be hard to get to the road without traction issues.
Got a Trans am with 531rwhp with 315 on the *** and the car just punishes them.

I will occasionally take it to the strip with slicks on, so I don't think traction will be a big deal, not on the strip anyways

With your HP goal id get a new daily driver so that you can mod your truck till your happy with it. Parts tend to break once you start adding da powa....and that stinks when its your only transportation!

Traction will not exist with that kind of HP on the street from anything under 80, unless you are 4x4. I am not making 800 hp and I can blow the tires off at 60.. Just to show you anything slower is a joke. This was back in the day when I was running very low boost and a diff head unit. I could have went for a long ways. Now it angers me some times that I can not hook from a dif or slow speeds.. If I rem correctly I might have even had the MT et streets still on the truck..

no, I'm not 4x4, but I have to work with what I got. live in the city right now, so I don't really care much for racing on the street, just the strip is what I'm focused on. Do you guys recommend any particular engine/tranny builders? I live in NC by the way
