wow, so you are telling me that you can get a 6L and do the entire swap for $700? cause thats what i have wrapped up in everything thats done to it now.
now i remember why i quit coming to this forum yrs back! too many ppl trying to throw in sarcastic little comments instead of trying to help you out

Go ahead and do the cam, headers and tune or any combination. I believe you will be disappointed if you are after torque...
And yes, you can find some very attractive deals on 6.0 liters.

Some people... Why come to a forum that has more "gear heads" and technical advice based around trucks...and then dont listen to what they have to say? These guys have been there and answered questions just like yours throughout the forums. They know what they are talking about. Yes you might get a "few" smart *** comments, but most of us are men and that is what we do sometimes. I am sure on LS1tech and other such forums they have the same kind of comments.
Look if you are seeking more torque, you will not find it cheaply with bolt ons. Torque comes with displacement. The old saying goes "there is no replacement for displacement."
Good luck with your endeavor.

where are you guys finding 6L's for $750? i checked ebay out the past few days and havent seen any for under 1k minus one that came out of a truck that was burnt. even the ones i seen for around 1k had 170,000 miles on them.
if i went this route it would be done over a yr or 2 piecing together an entire 3/4 ton running gear. engine, trans, and rear end. now how do you get the bolt pattern to match if it has a 3/4 ton rear end and stock front? can you just swap the front over?
i have a set of pro comp wheels picked out so def need to figure this aspect out.

Is there a reason you want to go to a 3/4 ton axle? Engine and tranny I can see.
I think your 1/2 ton rear end will hold up fine unless you plan on boost and or nitrous to go along with the 6L

This guy is confusing me.
Drop a 6L in it and be done with it. Craig's list, classified section on here, LS1tech or a dozen other forum's will have 6L for cheap, sell your own engine when your done and re-coup some of the money, your in it for no more than 1 grand.

I paid 1200 for my lq9, but they do command a higher price than a lq4 simply because it came out of an escalade.
Let me tell you, I would not drive my truck anymore without a 6 liter. A stock one wont turn your truck into a speed demon but it makes driving
Much more enjoyable. In the 2.5 years ive had the 6 liter my truck had never downshifted out of overdrive on any grade on the highway, whereas the 4.8 would have to downshift or youd lose 5-10 mph. Horrid low end torque. The 6.0 actually accelerates up a grade with very light throttle tip in. Bottom line do the swap.
