Default Pics of my broken 918 valve spring

Upon initial inspection after removal of the valve cover, everything looked good. However, it fell into pieces when I released the tension off of it...as you can see.

Batch 049045, one of the batches with a couple of broken springs - add one to that now.

Huge thanks to Tootall, for the heads up about the 918 broken spring problem and thanks to Bill Gates for inventing the internet to make informational forums like these possible

Now I must retreat back to the garage to finish the last 3 cylinders

Talk about fuggin luck!! WOW dude, that is great that it held together long enough to get the swap done! I just changed mine out but no obvious problems with them. I have noticed my valve train is significantly quieter though!

if my valvespring compressor wasnt at my shop (which is closed) I'd be doing mine in the driveway... I'll get them in this week some time. Glad to hear the report on them being quieter Bill... mine's noisy as hell now.

I haven't noticed anything unusual, but there's not telling how long it's been broke. I'm hoping for a quieter valve train too, currently I have the stereotypical sewing machine sound.

Welp, I'm off to knock the rest out

By the way, my batch number was 049045. This was one of the batches listed in this thread as a possible "problem" batch.

Chris Mays from Comp also stated that he only had a couple of springs break from that batch.

They still have the "Singer effect" but I had a clacking sound coming from the passenger side that seems to have gotten quieter.
Remember to allow your new springs to warm up a bit before getting on the throttle!

Alot of people fail to do that.

I laugh at some of the retards I ride with(sport bikes), the 600cc bikes rev to 16K or a hair more, and I cant tell you how many times we were at the bar or somewhere and get ready to leave and they will pull out on the road and do a WOT 1st and 2nd gear pass. Then they wonder why they drop a valve with only 5K on the motor. 10K on mine with the rev limiter at 17K with no problems

If the new 918s really are alot quieter thats good because every set of 918s I have installed/heard were loud as hell. Manley single springs are the quietest I have heard, they sound stock.
