only the ones sharing revanue.
a company called Rentrak will send you a software package.
in order to use it your stores software must be up to date.
sometimes these updates can cost a few thousand.

every night you have to send rentrak data from your store.
they total up all rentals, late fees, and sales.
rentals and late fees is 65% for the studio and 35% for you.
on sales it is 3 bucks for the studio the rest for you.
every week you write them a check.

now stores like mine buy the items out right and keep 100%
where the stores that do this lose 55 to 60% of there revenue every month.
now stores located close to a blockbuster or hollywood will revenue share inorder to place enough copies of a movie on the shelves to compeat.

right now red box has an advantage over the video stores from their contracts with the studios, now that information about this deal will be released will result in law suits on fair trade practis because video stores are not offered the same deal.
blockbuster tried this a long time ago, it cost the studios millions in lawyer fees being tied up in court, untill blockbusters contracts was up.
so instead of offering it to all to be on a level playing feild the studios chouse to stop it.
now it is out that the studios sends each red box 40 to 60 copies of a movie and ask for 55% of the rental fee of 1.00 and 55% of the late fees for the extra days kept, where as the offer to the video stores is 1.65 minimum or 65% or the rental, witch ever is greater and 65% of the late fees for the extra days kept, if collected.

red box hung its self by sueing universal, now all of the details of the contracts will be open to all by the court docs. and the freedom of information act.

honestly with Redbox, Netflix, Pirating, and other online access points, I can't see how video stores are still in business.

I some times wonder that too. I used to rent a video from our little local store almost every night, then I got netflicks and Direct TV with VOD and haven't been to the video store in over a year.

i some times wonder the same thing too, but im still in business.
i also wonder why people do netflex, red box, or even pirate a movie
when the public library does the same thing as me for free.

now this is funny.
tonight i know i have copies of the hulk still sitting on the shelf.
i also know the red box still has 30 to 35 copies of the hulk sitting in the machine.
now the public library has 5 copies of the hulk and a waitting list 2 note book pages long to be called when they get retuned.
even i cannot compeat with free.

the library has movies? wtf is this world coming too? when will pt.net be pictures only?

I support small business as much as possible. I try to always keep my $ local. Perhaps the small business offers more than flashy lights, bells and whistles.
