So i visited a buddies shop today to check out his nitro racecar
This thing is a beast! Currently he only runs 60% nitro. To put things in perspective increasing the nitro 5-10% increases the HP several hundred at least. He estimates around 3k+ HP at 60%.
The car is a salt flat racer with fuel tanks (there are 3) which total 35 gallons. He will burn 30-32 gallons in 3 miles. The main fuel line to the pump is 1.5 inches. Everything is crazy big on it. 3 fuel nozzles per cyclinder.
Here are some pics of the car
He showed me the type if AN fittings and lines he run. They are freaking huge. The line is insanely flexible you can tie it into a knot and it does not kink
The braided cover pushes back and the liner is sprial cut.
The olive screws on to the liner
The olive is huge! Twice as long as my PTFE stuff
Lastly the spark plugs are different. Notice how the strap does not cover the electrode. That is thw power if magnitos

Yeah to run nitro everything is huge and over sized. I forgot to take a pic but the valve spring are triple springs. I have never seen anything like it.
Another cool thing is he had a flow meter sensor on his main fuel line that goes into his racepack to log fuel flow.

Man I bet that thing sounds nasty at idle. To put it in perspective on how much nitro must be run through a SINGLE CYLINDER in a top fuel dragster down the 1/4, watch the vid below. Pretty insane. It starts out at idle then at the end of the vid is WOT.
Are there any vids of this salt flat car running or making a pass. I'd like to see it with the body on and race ready.

Basically. It is an older fuel motor. Probably was used in a funny car or dragster about 5-8 years ago. Those blocks are crazy. The cylinder sleeves slide in and out for easy replacement. He has like 4 of these blocks in different conditions. That particular block was rewelded due a explosion. Kinda unheard of you use to reuse scrapped blocks but for these guys they guy them with holes in them from rod ls wanting to eject. They grab as many pieces as possible then just weld it up and machine it.
I believe that motor is in the 360ci range to compete in a certain class. It is around 6:1 compression.
This is his first year running a V8. Previously he had the same block/blower/etc. on a 4 cylinder. He had a special crank, cam, mangnito setup and manifold made to just use 1 side of the motor. It was around 250-300ci, he estimated around 2000hp.
The main caps are freaky. They are retardly huge. The valve springs are triples (3 springs). I just love going up there and watching and asking questions.
The funny thing he is about 70 years old and he is one of the coolest people i have ever met and is one of my best friends.
