Tires.... Slicks and DRs
Hey guys..
This is something new to me, but i have a set of 275/40/17 MT DRs on stock aluminum 17s that i got for a really good deal..
They work great. But my buddy wants them for his Trans Am. and my other buddy wants the rims.
RanWalk has my other rims that i got from Element80 awhile back. My plan was to get some Slicks for them. They are the same rims that are on my truck.
So here is the big whopper..
You can see in my sig that i have the 80E, Stock converter, and 3.42s
Id like to get some 28x10.5?-16 Slicks so it wont look so goofy like the 26" DRs do.
I dont plan on driving these on the road at all, strictly track tire. Thats why i want a real slick.
Before i sell my buddy the 26" DRs i want to see what it runs in the 1/4 with them.. and see if i can Con Ranwalk into letting me borrow his 28" ET Streets and see which works better.
Im shifting at 5800-5900rpms.
With the 60E i ran a 13.3@102 and that was the bottom of 3rd.
Now with the 80E ive ran a 13.1 but didnt get a MPH.
Shifting into 3rd at ~95 with the 80E..
So somebody please shed some light on this, if you know what im tryin to get at..
26" vs 28"

With a 28" tire you will trap better, but your 60ft will still suck and e/t won't be that great... A 3000 converter in that 80 will really help... I won't bring up swapping to a 3.73 gear, I know you won't give up those tall bastards
There's gotta be a compromise if you want a better slip... You will still keep good mileage too I'd bet.

My 13.1 was on my 26" MT DRs spraying the 50shot.

No stall for me.. you ever priced one of them things??? They are ridiculous. I can get 2500 brake stalling the stocker with my Toyos... Maybe i can get a lil more out of it with some slicks. prob up the shot just a lil too.. or the boost.. haha depends on if i can get my LC1 working before my injectors get here..
I dont see any gain coming from swapping to a 3.73 from a 3.42. thats alot of money i could put else where.

Your 60s would drop with a gear swap... 3.73s will still load that turbo fine with the stock converter, when your 60s drop, your e/t drops.
Yeah, I know a stall for an 80 is a good chunk of cash. I'd up the boost personally and consider a gear swap... Your kind of at that poing now.
FWIW, I'm debating on either a 28" or going with a 30x10.5x15 Hoosier full slick for my setup... I've got the rims, grinding the calipers wouldn't be bad. And that amount of sidewall should allow me to launch under some decent boost with my converter and still dead hook. But really looking at it, our setups are day and night.
