Default U.S. Corporate Honchos are retarded

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...ell-in-us.aspx

65mpg Ford Fiesta won't be sold in the U.S. simply because it runs on Diesel. They don't want to produce a Diesel powered car in the U.S. because Hybrid's are more popular.

Think maybe that's only because there aren't many options on buying a diesel powered car? So now Nissan and Honda are considering producing Diesel cars in the U.S. by 2010.
WTH is ford thinking? By the statement below i'd say DO IT. There's enough people that will buy it at the price estimated. Hell, they buy the Prius and obviously a diesel will have more power which will draw in more people that don't like gutless cars.
What do you think?

First of all, the engines are built in Britain, so labor costs are high. Plus the pound remains stronger than the greenback. At prevailing exchange rates, the Fiesta ECOnetic would sell for about $25,700 in the United States.

By contrast, the Prius typically goes for about $24,000.

A $1,300 tax deduction available to buyers of new diesel cars could bring the price of the Fiesta to around $24,400. But Ford doesn't believe it could charge enough to make money on an imported ECOnetic.

BMW has a diesel mini-cooper thats sporty and gets like 70mpg, but its not in the US because they wouldnt be able to sell it in Ca. Its why VW no longer makes TDI's

Do the people in CA really even check the emissions on those little diesel cars? Some of them are more efficient than a gas car.

Do some reserach before you make an uneducated statement like that:

From the ARB website:
Smog Information

Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or vehicles 1975 and older.

We are one of the ONLY states that do not require the inspection of diesel vehicles.

Colorado's diesel test procedure:
Diesel vehicles are to be tested as follows: Light duty vehicles with a GVWR of 14,000 lbs or less are exempt from an emissions test if purchased brand new for 2 model years and then tested every year after that. Heavy duty vehicles with a GVWR of 14,001 and more are exempt from an emissions test if purchased brand new for 4 model years and then tested every other year until it reaches its tenth year and then the vehicle needs to be tested every year.

You might want to look at your Federal Government for cockblocking the little diesels.

They don't check diesels, but this states emissions system is run by morons who dont seem to know cars.

Infact many many car companies make diesel versions of popular cars. However its not really viable if the cars are only 49 state legal.

Funny how Ca never seems to be all that cleaner then the other states despite all these absurd laws.

The laws where put in to place because of all the smog. not the other way around.
But regardless. I think they should Apply some type of Emissions test on Diesel cars, they may be surprised.

So thats why the CRD jeep liberty was sold everywhere EXCEPT Ca.

I find it interesting that hybrids arent tested. Man you could really do a number on those retards if you picked up a civic hybrid and swapped in an Si drivetrain.
