One thing about home alarms, at least for us at my old house. You have to get an alarm permit, otherwise if you don't have one on file, the cops don't have to come... Awesome huh? BTW that is in fort worth.

At my new house it would be pointless, we live in the sticks and all my neighbors are too far away to hear the alarm...

mossberg. Done and done. If they take your **** while no one is home, its just stuff. Most can be replaced via insurance. If you / you're family are home, lay waste to the scummy *** and then call the police.

I have been installing systems for about 25 years. The new trend in larger cities is to require you to register an alarm system. It is just another way for them to gouge the tax payer. Check with your local county and city to see if registration is required. Go with a small independent Co. Pay for the system up front, do not do a 99.00 system where you are locked in a contract for several years at 40-75 per month. A good system will run between 800-1400 bucks depending on what all you want. Do not sign a contract for monitoring either. If the company is any good they will not try to make you sign a monitoring contract.

alarm by glock...in all seriousness tho, i have adt. it works ok, i want to see if i can upgrade the sensors. Honestly my dogs do a much better job and there isnt a need for the alarm imo. But it gives my wife piece of mind. Its all about layers of defense. 1st the dogs hear it, then the alarm goes off, then its all over for the intruder. i have several house guns as well.

I think it depends on where you live. I live in the bay area and Bay Alarm is a great company. Worked for them for a while and they are very competent and professional.
