Shannon, have you checked your msconfig? not everything loaded in the startup needs to be on, some things do. Start at the bottom of the list and turn off things you recognize, one each time and check for function.
You can also go into the registry and turn off all unnecessary features.

I Turned Off All The Stuff I Recognised Already...

 

I have problems with the stuff that I DON'T recognize. This site and Pac's Portal list a lot of start-up programs and what they do. You should examine all start-up programs and disable any that are not necessary. Also download and install Spybot and AdAware programs and scan your system with both. A last resort is HiJackThis, but that is somewhat complicated.

 

xp home sux, if you have a copy of xp pro use it, the key if valid doesnt matter if it comes from another disc or not, it will still work, as long as the key is valid and not all installs have been used, on another note i have a corperate version of xp pro if needed feel free to pm me, just pay the shipping ... on another note unchecking everything wont hurt windows i do it all the time specially after i install new software or make software changes or start of certain aspects of windows...

 

I MAY HAVE TO HIT YOU UP ON THAT... BECAUSE I HAVE XP PRO ON MY LAPTOP.... I HATE XP HOME... BUT COULDNT AFFORD THE PRO FOR MY DESKTOP WHEN I HAD IT...

 

You sound about like me here....I have been so tempted to go to linux on my computers. Just haven't been brave enough to make the switch yet and I'm not sure how HP tuners will run in linux.

 

+1 I DUNNO IF LINUX AND HPT WOUDL AGREE.... OR SEE EYE TO EYE SO TO SPEAK..

 

if the developement of HP tuners wasnt window based then it would work.. this would be a question for the creator, myself not having it and being familar with linux ( use on servers) i would say it would work....
