Lowes sells a 32cc troybuilt that I have two of, ( I liked it so much I bought another) comes in straight shaft or curved, I put the Grass Gator head on one of them, It'll take down small trees. I have a horse farm with 100s of fence posts.I go through a weed whacker every other year or so and the trobuilt has been pretty good to me. I bought a Husqvarna, brought it home, did about 4 or 5 posts and took it back (what a Puss cutter, it should have a ***** attachment or somthing, not good for grass over 3" tall )

Just my .02 but I use them allot.....

What's the advantages or disadvantages of a straight shaft v. curved?

Just personal preferance I guess. the curved shaft is probably better for close quarters stuff. the straight shaft is a little longer and is better if your cutting a wide path. both cutter heads end up at the same angle, but the straight shaft will be further away from you (thats what I like).

Your back will thank you if you get the straight shaft type, unless your 5' tall or you like bending over a lot, then it's okay.

Generally the strait shafts are stronger...

I have a troy-bilt 4 cycle straight shaft. Had it about a year now, and so far no problems. I have 3 acres and about 2500 linear foot of fenceline.

I am 6'3 so the curved shaft wasn't an option. The 4 cycle is cool cause you don't have to mix the oil into the gasoline.

Where'd ya get the grass gator head, and was it just a straight swap, cause I need one.

Lowes sells the grass gator head, It comes with some hard plastic/nylon blades. But they also sell the replacement blades that have a metal insert, Thats the shiz. it sweeps through 2' tall grass and weeds effortlessly. I even use it overhead to cut brush and small trees back. it also comes with every type of nut and bolt to fit any trimmer, Left hand threads and all. From personal experiance I do not recomend putting it on a small trimmer like the homelite. theres so much more spinning mass that it'll strip the little cable ends, and the little homies don't have enough *** to spin it anyway..
