yeah, it did; thanks!
now just let me know next time you hook your trailer up. i reckon it'll take a little more 4th gear use, but that sounds like a decent compromise given the better DD cruising.

ps - since it was late, i could get away with this test the other night... but i managed to pull 20mpg out of the old girl coming back from dallas (something i ain't managed since right after the 5.3 swap when everything else was stock + tune)
33s, 4.30 gears, headers, 219/224 cam, a/c on, and still using 87 octane

but i had to keep it between 55 & 60 the whole way. driving 75-80 drops to 15mpg.

Might get a chance to tow my tractor across town this week which is a pretty stout load maybe 10k? Not really sure. Won’t get up above 60mph because it’s just back roads but I’ll let you know how it goes. When towing I like to use 4th a lot anyway maybe I wrong but I feel OD is not really meant for bogging with a trailer. No idea I'm not a towing pro by any means.

20mpg is pretty dang awesome! Idk what the heck is wrong with my RCSB it gets terrible MPG even before the blower. I did a 2 hour drive 100% highway at 65mph never had to stop or even slow down and only got 12.5. Towing it gets 6.

How do you like that cam? The 212/218 112lsa in the Tahoe is so mild it’s nearly nonexistent (which I like for a DD tow pig). But I have the same cam in the 6.0 I'm building for the RCSB and now realize I will want much more.

for sure, you probably shouldn't use 5th with 10k (or a 1/2 ton chassis for that matter), but with lighter loads, it's usually fine.
granted, i ain't seen 20mpg in 8yrs (and that was babying it then, too). my average is just under 16 mixed driving, but i've also got a smooth foot. towing the car's usually 12-13 at 65-70.
it probably helps that i've only cranked the front bars - no lift at all, and i have a bed cover. your new topper will likely help a little. the 4.8s were also never known for their torque at 2000rpm (cruising speed) either.
the cam's alright - definitely validates the 4.30s, though. took Justin about 3 tries to get the low-speed bucking to a minimum, though. it'll occasionally surge a little when pulling out of gear & coasting but not bad or often. it'd probably do gooder in a 6.0, even with stock gears, since 1-3 are deeper on the 4500.
sure lopes decent at idle.

Took the tractor across town today and it towed great. The 5 link with front and rear sway bars seems to handle the load much better than my super soft Deavers do in the RCSB. It squatted pretty good but wasn’t on the bumps. 1st gear is a necessity with that much load. But it did great in 4th cruising about 60 mph. Not sure on mileage because it was less than a 25 mile round trip.

Also not sure if it would climb a grade in 4th at that speed. Would probably have to drop to third or pick up speed so it was over 2krpm
