Default *HELP* LC-1 error code 2

I've got everything wired up for my LC-1, which I'm also using as a NB too. I'm running the first time use calibration. I have the sensor out of the exhaust and when I turn the key to run, the LED blinks an error 2 code. Which says I have the heater circuit open.

My question is; doesn't the NB sensor use its body as a ground when its screwed in? If so, then my ground would be open when the WB is hanging free right?
I'm thinking I have to run another ground wire to the Blue wire on the LC-1 so its grounded when I have the WB unscrewed.

FWIW the LC-1 is a little finicky. I am already on my second O2 sensor and second LC-1 controller. For some reason they don't really like to be taken out and stored after you have used them for a while. I had mine in over thanksgiving week tuning, took it out, put it in the box and kept it in the house. When I went to do some more tuning the week before X-Mas got the infamous error code 8 - Timing Error and had to get a new O2 sensor from the local VW dealer. Then the LC-1 crapped out so I had to get them to warranty it. Just not my month I guess.

Well I planned on just leaving it in permanently cause its going to be my NB sensor too now.
Hopefully it will last for a while.
