Default 87 vs. 93 and another question..

I've searched, but didn't find anything conclusive.

Are there any advantages to running 93 octane in a 5.3? Stock heads/ 216/220/TB Converter

I ask because even though I do not have headers yet, my truck still seems to have nothing on the bottom end, and not as peppy overall as it should be. Wondering if the switch to 93 would wake it up.

I don't mind paying the little extra for premium if they HP gains warrants it, but I'd rather not just **** my money away.

Wheatley supplies my tunes, and he asked me if I wanted 93, and I declined, but I'll be needing a retune soon and wanted to see what was the general consensus here.

And I've never had a stalled vehicle, so I am unsure of how it's supposed to be...but until ~55mph, my converter constantly locks and unlocks when just cruising. Is this normal? It's just rather aggravating.

Thanks guys.

93 will let you run more timing which equals more hp. Not sure if that is everywhere or mostly at WOT. Ask Wheatley.

tune with 93 for the most out of your setup. you should get some LT headers though, that would probably net you another 30 hp.
the converter unlocking is in the tune, just have wheatley change the lock up speeds. mine is 41mph in 4th...

lock up at 41 sickens me. I've got mine set at 52 and it's perfect. It's so much nicer to drive around town and more responsive too.

might be perfect for you... mine drives great in the city and is quite responsive while still getting 18mpg mixed.

It's all personal preference. A lot of my city driving is between 40-45 mph so the converter constantly locking and unlocking in annoying as hell. Also, the motor is in a much sweeter spot around 1700 rpms compared to 1100 locked.

there's no reason to ever tune a cammed vehicle to anything other than premium fuel. Why is it cammed if you didn't want the most out of it?

do you know the cost difference between a tank full of regular vs. premium?
