Default anyone lockup the TC in 3rd at part throttle?

I have been slowly working on my tranny settings and i have been locking up the TC in 3rd at part throttle. I don't lock up 3rd at WOT at all because my TC is not made to handle it. I was just wondering if it is recommended?

I am running a CircleD 278mm 3200 TC incase anyone is wondering....

I never do on any tune other than on a stock converter. I feel it's a no no pretty much below 45 or 50 due to the converter slip and I won't even lock them at more than 35 or 40% throttle. I set them up to unlock around 50-60% of tps.

I have mine setup to shift 2->3 at 30 then lockup 3rd at 35 then 3->4 at 40 then lockup at 45 at very light throttle. The more throttle you give it the shift and lockup mph increases proportionally. Hopefully that makes sense.

I had mine pretty much locking whenever it shifted into 3rd at part throttle. What are the ill effects of that?

No lockup here, as I've been running the single disc until recently. Part throttle, trans shifts to 4th before 3rd lockup so it never locks in 3rd. WOT doesn't lock. Have been considering WOT lockup in 3rd with the multi-disc though...should pull harder on the high end.

i understand what you are saying about the lock up vs speed corey, I know with the ss4000 I had at times 1000 to 1500 rpm drops if I tried locking in 3rd because my converter was so loose. You're probably fine with your converter and a lighter truck. I also didn'tlike the lock, unlock, lock.

When I first installed the stall it would buck and surge and you could feel the tc lock/unlock constantly at a steady 40-50 mph while cruising. That was with the stock parameters that lock the tc in 3rd and 4th.

It was annoying so I started fiddling with the tune a little. I still have it lock in 3rd and 4th but at higher speeds and it immediately unlocks if I take my foot off the pedal to come to a stop light. I also changed it to not lock at WOT and picked up some ET/MPH at the track.

Before when I wanted to pass someone I had to give it plenty of gas so it would kick down to 3rd. Now I give it a little gas and it unlocks the tc in 4th and I am able to pass with ease without having to go to 3rd.

I think I get better mpg with the tc locked at cruise vs not having it locked.
