Bad day on the dyno

Default Bad day on the dyno

Well, I took my truck to High Speed Performance in Mokena Illinois to have it dyno tuned and at 6000rpm producing around 335rwhp and close to 400lbs torque the drive shaft snapped in half and took out the tranny (just had it rebuilt last summer) and exhaust. It appears that the engine and supercharger are fine, but the tranny has a crack along the side and the drive shaft is in three pieces. We were surprised to see how thin GM made there aluminum drive shafts. The owner is going to see what he can do for me and I guess go from there??? I am going to give my tranny guy a call tomorrow just for the hell of it.

This is exactly why much truck is never going on a dyno, at least with a stock 2 peice driveshaft.

I was stuck between a rock and a dyno tune. I couldn't use the program from magna charger and my buddy couldn't get to my truck for a month. Well, I guess better on the dyno then on the way home or on the back roads, right!? DYNO

he couldnt do a dyno tune in 2nd gear? Too much power?

He thinks that the clip came out of the u-joint, which broke loose at the pig and /well what else can I say. I had the drive shaft balanced with new U-joints put in last year by a place called action machine by my house. I paid around 115 for parts and labor and was told it should hold up for my application. If i remember, I think the original u-joints had some kind of blue glue holding the C-clip in???

dam that sux. this has been something ive been worried about with my 2 piece. Im glad i have 4.10 gears cause yesterday on the dyno we were doing 3rd gear pulls. But it only puts me up to about 118 MPH>

I don't think GM ever made a 2-piece aluminum DS so it's gotta be the one piece.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune bro!! I had a similar problem when my stock Aluminum DS started to wobble and hit my cross member at high speed on the freeway. The Aluminum ones are really thin but they are more than strong enough for High Torque application due to their diameter but they cannot go past 105 mph or they start to wobble and flex and snap. Hope you get yourself a nice strong 2-piece steel DS.

Oh yeah...for anyone that has a aluminum DS especially Crew Cab's always dyno in 2nd gear and never 3rd gear, that is sure to snap it eventually!
