Default bad MAF, no dtc?

04 silv. 5.3 auto hptuners, converter, exhaust

would a bad MAF always throw a code? I am getting knock at low rpm and erratic shifting at times. Same tune has been in truck for a while. Truck is mostly stock. I ran a scan and at wot, the maf is only showing about 28-29 lbs/min at 5500-6000. This converts over to about .54 GSEC. The truck has always gotten into the .72 g/sec. area on the spark curve. MAP is constantly 95-100 kPa. I have checked for vac leaks, only hear a whine in the valve cover on the drivers side coming caused by the drivers side rear connection and high idle vacuum. Cannot post scan at this time. laptop is not with me.

I've seen bad MAF's with no code.
