Question Brand new PCM question

My trans builder has a customer with a 06 TBSS, custom tuned & locked pcm. The tune was done by a previous owner of the vehicle, and the company that did it is out of business. The line pressures are way too high, and the transmission needs retuned. So......

A new pcm has been ordered. I'm pretty sure that a new pcm has no factory tune in it, right? Using HPT, will I have to license a stock tune from the repository, load it, then license again(to the VIN) to retune it? Or should I have the Dealer program the new pcm with the Tech 2, then go from there?

Or, am I going about the whole thing completely wrong?

You should be able to overwrite the locked PCM if you do a "Write Entire". Should you not? My local dealer charged me $50 to reflash the PCM on my truck.

It won't even allow me to read the calibration.

I think the TECH II should be able to overwrite what's on the PCM though. You won't be able to READ a locked PCM as that's the whole reason behind locking it. If you had the stock calibration I would think you could do a WRITE ENTIRE over the current flash. Find a dealer who'll work with you and see if they have a guarentee policy

I do believe once it is locked, it is locked, and only the original tuner can unlock it. Even a Tech II can't crack it.

Tech 2 to stock & then read with our software is your best bet.

Thank you for the tip Bill. I have access to a Tech 2, so I will make an attempt. I will post up later if it works or not.
