Default Can i upgrade my 99 silverado pcm to a 02

Ive heard the 99 pcm OS is not the best to have when trying to tune. If i want to upgrade to something better whats all involved. DO you just swap the pcm, srite a new tune and done. Or does it involve rewiring. ANt advise or links would be helpful. Im having major issues with my current pcm and either want to replace it or upgrade it depending on which is best. Please help. THanks

Simple answer, yes, plug-n-play. The late 01 and 02 411 pcms have more memory and a better OS and seem to help with false knock issues over the early 411 pcms. I did the swap on my 2000 after doing a h/c swap and having false knock.

2001-2002
Tahoe
(ID #12200411)

**PROGRAMABLE**

So the above pcm should work right. Is there any options i need to be concerned about other then the fact its for a 5.3 liter.

Your gonna have to have it retuned etc etc.
So just find a tuner that knows what he's doing and
have him tune your existing ECM.

I currently own HP tuner and am pretty confident with my tuning. Im not a professional but ive got a decent grasp on it. THe issue is i think my pcm is messing up and i figured if im goinog to have to replace it i might as well upgrade it at the same time. Everything was fine, then one day i had my tuner hooked up and the radio started flashing multiple different nubers and letters on the display and the red light started blinking and is now locked up, my abs kicks in at a rolling stop, and it seems like when i write a calibrationn the pcm's not taking the tune. So id like to replace it with an 02 pcm becaise ive heard there better then the 99 pcm.

your abs problem may not be related to the pcm. These trucks have problems with dirt and/or rust getting under the front wheel speed sensors, increasing the air gap and causing the abs to come on at low speeds.

i take it apart and check for build up. the thingthat makes me ttink the pcm is the issue is because the problem didnt happen until i tuned my truck for bigger tires and lower gears.
