Default Can you use Hypertech w/ a tuned PCM? while still keeping the tune?

Just out of curiousity, my brother got a new tune in his '04 Silverado and was wondering if he can still use the hypertech to program shift points with while still keeping the tune. The shift points and firmness didn't really get changed much (if at all) by the tuner. He want's to do more tinkering with the shift points and firmness but doesn't want to lose the tune. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

I don't know about the Hypertech but I have done that with my Diablo before I got HPTuners.

Why not just ask the Tuner to adjust?
I know it can be used to read codes (without affecting tune) but i wouldn't alter a Tune with one.

It's just easier this way if it's possible. I know other's have wondered if this will work too. You would think that if you were to only adjust the trans settings on the hypertech that it would woudln't affect the engine aspect of the tune.

If I remember correctly the Hypertech will ask him if he wants to keep the stock tune or install the high octane tune so the choices are limited and would likely override the new tunehe has in there. I wouldn't mess with it. I'd ask the tuner to make changes to the shift points, or manually shift, or use the tow mode.

You're asking for trouble trying to use both a custom tune and the Hypertech together....have the tuner change the trans settings to your brothers liking and don't risk screwing up the custom tune with the Hypertech

well if i remember u can change the settings if u had a predator. the reason is it askes u if u want to install the performance tune or adjust the stock tune. Now i believe you could do this with the predator to adjust trans settings but i do not know if u can do it with a hypertech without install a different tune.

Shoould be able if all he wants to do is change tranny settings, but I also recomend getting the tuner to do it, and sell the hypercrap

I wondered that too. I still have my predator to use as a scan tool, but am reluctant to play with anything else since I got the custom tune. I am lucky though my tuner is local (60 min) so I can go for a visit if needed.

I susupect that the hypertech and not sure about the predator would still write over the entire set of tables. But we won't know unless someone has tried it, or you can try and aget an answer from hypertech.
