Question GM techs chime in - weird *** power door lock problem

i'm working on a 97 Z71 with power everything.

-you unlock or lock the doors from the driver side switch and they work fine.
-you hit the passenger side lock/unlock button and the cigar lighter fuse blows instantly.
-you unplug the driver side switch and the passenger side switch works fine without blowing the fuse.
-even if you swap the switches from side to side the same thing happens regardless of which side each switch is connected.

any ideas at this point would be helpful. i've been working on this thing for 3 days, and what little sanity i have left is slipping!!

if you have access to SI, i'm using these documents:

I know you are looking for a GM tech to say " yep seen it many times and it is this........."
Hopefuly one will chime in.If I were to guess i would say you have a direct short in the switch wiring on the drivers side where the wiring goes through the door into the cab, thoses wires do a lot of flexing right there.

as it turns out, the driver door had the wrong harness in it. there were 2 extra ground wires going into the swithc that would short when you hit the switch. i unplugged them and taped them. all is good now.

That tidbit of info would have really helped rather than believing the condition was developed on its own.
