How can I read HPT files in EFI or vice versa?
I know the old .bin files could be opened with EFI but is there a way to read the newer .hpt files in EFI or a way to read .tun files in HPT?
I thought I heard there was a way to convert either one to an excel file and then reopen in whatever program you had.
Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched and didn't find anything.

You can't. .HPT is a proprietary format. The old .BIN files were just an image dump of the flash memory. Apparently HPTuners switched formats because competitors were using the .BIN files to reverse engineer their (HPTuner's) software. This is one reason why I still use Ver. 1.7. (The other is that I'm too cheap to buy a new data link adapter).

This is why I don't think it can't be done.
You upload the PCM with a .hpt tune. Then I come along with EFI and download your tune from the PCM and EFI reads it fine. (I assume, I've never tried)
How can the PCM accept both files and I can download any file that's in the PCM?
Or is it that a PCM loaded with a .HPT file is encrypted by .HPT and if I go in with tunercat or EFI or LS1 edit, I can't read it? Seems like that would screw alot of guys over.

I dont think it matters what the software is when it is downloading from the PCM, in other words my tune is done with HPT but I dont see why EFI live wouldnt read the PCM. However due to the formats they cannot read eachothers Files.... I dont know....

When a tune is read from the pcm, it is saved on your pc in a different file format then it is in the PCM. HPT and EFILive have there own unique file formats for that, that can't be read by the other. When a tune is written to the PCM it is written in GM's file formate. As long as it is a GM os, both programs can read the file. If it is written in a custom OS (like a 2bar setup) then that is unique to the software it was written with and only that software can read it back out. Make since?

Luckily my dyno guy uses EFI.

Yep. perfect example, The Breeze was tuned by EFI Live on the dyno and I (HPT) downloaded his tune into HPT and did some edits and uploaded it back. His non-custom at this point.
