I took "The Tuning School" 2 day beginner class. I found it very beneficial and full of information. I think I could have figured it out over time from forums, but taking this class saved me endless hours of picking through threads, separating the experts from talkers. The reference the text book from the class all the time. I would do it again.

I chose "Read a Manual" because I have three books, two DVD's and constantly read threads on the forums.
When I first got the tuning software, I was sink or swim with the 4.3L V6 in my RCSB just experimenting and whatnot. Now with the cammed/turboed 5.3 in it, I'm actually surprised by how well the tune is turning out. A few bumps in the road, but nothing a little research and trial and error couldn't take care of.
A good quote from someone on HP Tuner's forum, "Tuning is a process, not an event."

Self taught and still learning new things daily as I am still very novice. I just search for things on the EFILive forums and so forth to give me ideas of what to focus on. My background is industrial PLC's so this isn't much different really.

I was lucky enough enough to have one of the most experienced tuners in country teach me to tune. I used what he taught me and spent probably hundreds if not thousands of hours over the years always applying what I learned. Its never ending, I still learn something new all the time when tuning. I already had a mechanical background so for the most part I just had to learn the software. Learning the software is the biggest thing IMO, and they are always getting better and better.
