HPTUNERS vs. Mail Order Tune
As I'm in the process of building my motor for my 99 silverado, I will soon be needing a custom tune. Most ls1 car guys that I know reccomend that I go with HPtuners, and tune it myself. Is hptuners a better tune than a mail order, say Nelson, Wait4me, etc.?? Also does anyone on here have hptuners? How hard are they to operate? Will I be capable of tuning correctly and get the kind of performance that I could be able to get from a mail order. Thanks guys

really you can't beat a live tune... to use HP Tuners or EFI Live (what most mail order tuners are using) you will have to do alot of research and trial and error to get it right, as mentioned - they both have forums on their websites with tons of information.

Like everyone has said if you have the time and knowledge then tuning yourself will be better. I was going to get EFI live since they are having a run out sale, but decided I don't have the time and patience to do it so i'm sticking with a mail order.

HPTuners is pretty sweet, i've been using it for about a month now and it'll really give you a better understanding of your whole motor and how everything works from learning to use the software and tune. IMO it's worth the extra money to get the enhanced EIO on hptuners so you can log a wideband and actually tune yourself without having to tune your AFR at a shop on a dyno. I'm ordering my wideband next week so I can start doing so. It's worth the money over a mail order tune IMO. Mostly it's a convenience thing for me, I dont wanna mail a PCM and/or wait on one and not be able to change small things a lot.
