IAT Bias Issue?
#41
I understand...I can't debate the tests, all I can say is it seems WAY more stable to me if it is off versus on with a bias of 1. If there really is a difference, I 'd assume it's due to the needed calculations of the cct, even though it is using a factor of 1 vs no large and complicated calculation with it off. If there is no difference as your tests show, then carry on and enjoy the life of bias of 1 in the cct.

I have CCT off and have for the last few logging sessions. Plan is to get it right without them and try and maintain what I FEEL is accurate VE/Fuel with the bias later, now that I know generally a BIAS toward IAT will richen and lean toward ECT.

I turned my CCT off yesterday after reading this post. I've had the bias on one for quite awhile now and always HATED tuning in the heat. VE error would change from one log to the next and overshoot (at %1/2) pretty bad. I actually try to tune at night in the summer time. Changes in IAT seem to not throw off the VE table as much with CCT set to off. RTT is a godsend too!

That'd be interesting, which one read closest to ambient. Heck, to me it be interesting which one read what with another thermometer in a test box of some kind. LOL Just a curious thing though. It is all relevant to a scale more so than a specific temp any way. If ya know what I mean. As long as it is quick reacting and consistent you should be able to tune around it. Just saying you could put it in your intake tube but you'd have to have a very very aggressive IAT advance table. LOL Very aggressive. Why don't you do that? Put the extra one in your intake and use another custom PID for it? That would be awesome. Use the data in excel to make a comparison graph of the two iat's.
Get efi and HPTuners to add the ability to tune with it and we would be set.

Still tuning with CCT off. Overall rich @ cold engine. Mostly stoich at warm and cruise, Lean @ heat soaked.... no nothing new to report. Plan is to turn CCT back on once I'm happy with VE @ operating temp and cruise then play with the BIAS number to hopefully pull in the cold and heat soaked.
I will say that the new IAT does respond very quickly and overall reporting higher IAT's than the original sensor.

I played with mine for a bit recently. I will say this, I would be less frustrated if the IAT did fall back in place quicker. I may one day put the IAT mod on my list of things to do. I know I would be happier with the results.
I have it fairly close besides I don't care how many times it is explained to me I just don't get understand how is it I can get in on a cold start drive it (rich) for an hour stop, turn it off and then 30 minutes later get in it and drive it for an hour (lean at first, then settles in perfect) and it will NOT be the same as the first run. Even though the IAT, ECT, flux capacitor and everything is now back to the same numbers as they were in the first run.

Did you get your log I posted up. Volts during a run?
