Question Ideal UpShift RPM on "stock" 5.3?

I know a generic "ideal" shift rpm isn't really a possibility.

I was just curious where you guys have your stock-ish 5.3's shifting at?

Stock tuning, mine shifts 1>2 at 5600, 2>3 at 5200.

It "sounds" and "feels" like it could easily rev higher, but as a new 5.3 owner, I'm not wanting to push it too much.

From track testing I've found

5900 for the 1-2
5800 for the 2-3
5500 for the 3-4

nets me the best stock 5.3L shift points and quarter mile times.

Thanks for the reply zippy.

I guess I should have mentioned my minor, and very limited mods. Not that it deviates very far from stock at all anyway, lol...

Flowmaster catback, soon to be Dynomax "duals" (common one into two, not true)
Fram AirHog air filter
Modified stock airbox (most of bottom is cut away, as is the steel plate under it)
Airaid air intake tube
HPTuners used for tuning (so far just slight timing additions across the board, PE enabled much sooner, torque management reduced, etc.)

I was/am considering longtubes and an ORY, but am un-decided as to whether they will help both power and mileage enough to justify the cash outlay? I already have my 11 second car as a toy, so this is just my daily driven work beater that I like to make scream every now and again.

Update...

Truck seems to have responded well to higher WOT shift points copied from zippy's reply.

Thanks again.

i have a small cam in my truck which has a slight bit higher power band than stock but not much. I'm shifting 1-2 6100 2-3 5900 and 3-4 5600. You should be good with zippy's but i would make sure to enable it to downshift at a little higher speed. I'ts nice to be able do drop to 2 at hwy speed, and 1 a little higher so you aren't stuck in the dead spot as bad.

i have mine set to shift at 6000 on all shifts, It was falling off at about 6100 so I dropped back to 6000 and Im happy with that. heres an image of my shift speeds, I really like the way this performs for a DD w/ tow haul used for aggressive driving.

btw mods are lt's, ory, cai, has g80 3.73 and stock 265's

Can the stock springs handle the increased RPMs? I know with the F body stuff, anything over the stock limiter and you float the valves.

I have my 1-2 at 5600 and 2-3 at 5600.

My truck has 101,000 miles and seems to handle it great, FWIW. It seems to really like the raised shift points.

I just peaked at a copy of my stock tune (to verify) and from the factory mine had a 6000 rpm fuel shutoff/rev limiter. I simply raised that by 250 rpm's and haven't hit the limiter, or valve float yet.

Excellent point, since mine DEFINITELY has a spot at highway speed where if I try to "merge", it's all but gutless.

FWIW, I also lowered the A/C cutoff point so that it shuts off at a much lower rpm for passing, merging, etc...I'm going to up the downshift MPH today though. Thanks for the tip.

Where is your a/c cutoff now? If you bump up the downshift mph by a few that will help that "gutless" spot. Mine will grab 2nd all the way up to almost 70, and that's with 4.10s and short tires.
