Nelson Re-tune question...Crank Relearn?
Well, I got my modules back from Nelson. I know they are the same modules, because I marked them. I put them in today and I had to do the security re-learn again, which wasn't a huge surprise, but I thought that was a one-time deal? Well, again, after one re-try, it started up, then died, then restarted and ran fine....BUT, the damn SES light is on again!!! Apparently I need to do the Crank Relearn again??!!! I thought this was a once-per-module deal???
Does anybody have any insight as to why I would need to do a Crank Relearn again? When I put the stock modules back in when I sent my tuned ones to Nelson, I didn't have to do a thing. No Security relearn and no SES light.

Pretty sure. I will find out for sure in about 2 hours.
It did the exact same thing as it did when I originally installed it: No start, did security relearn (only one cycle req'd), it started, died, then restarted and ran fine. SES light is on.
I am thinking Nelson tweaked my original tune file that he had stored on his end and then overwrote my tune with that one instead of just modifying the tune that was already on my ECM, which already had the Crank Relearn done on it. I am guessing he did this because the tune is not locked (not lockable on the new E38 ECM's with HPT yet) and he wanted to be sure he was modifying the tune as he had tuned it, i.e. in case I had messed with it (which I hadn't). Make sense? or no?

It was the Crank Relearn code. And yes, my tune is now locked.
Still not sure why I needed a crank relearn for a 2nd time on the same ECM? Is this going to be necessary every time I get my tune updated?
