Oil pressure...gauge to worky :/
On my way home from Houston tonight, about 5 or so miles up the road, I noticed that the oil pressure gauge was reading at around the 80psi mark. Put the truck in neutral for a few seconds to let the RPM's drop down to see if it changed anything. No joy. Went ahead and pulled over, shut it down, started it back up and ended up with the same results. Thing is I know I have good OP, temp stays right where its supposed to. And when I cut the ignition off and back on, the needle went to ZERO with no power, ignition back on 80psi, start sequence back to ZERO and back to 80psi right off the bat.
So; oil pressure sending unit perhaps? I don't think I'm having an issue with the gauge cluster as the needle does "exercise" back and forth. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Getting ready to make a trek up to Colorado to do some snowboarding at the end of the month and need my baby in perfect working order. Thanks much!!!

Alrighty, went down and picked up an "oil pressure switch". $40 later...and I'll know something on Monday when it goes in. Glad my logic has matched up with everyone else's thus far...

UPDATE: I did this several weeks ago, and forgot to post up
Ended up being the oil pressure "switch" (sending unit). $40 part, but kind of a PITA to get to. It's right behind the intake manifold on the block, drivers side. Make sure you have a 1 1/16" DEEP socket before you take on the replacement. A small mirror and plenty of light would make things easier...I did everything by FEEL..., lmao.

I had checked the levels and the engine sounded great, to be sure we took it to a Chevy dealer and they doubled checked by putting on a mechanical gauge via a filter sandwich adapter.
My theory is the OP switches fail probably due to heat and specially in Vettes it's a pain to get to as the back of the manifold is under the cowl but that area also retains a lot of heat.
We used a TPE relocation kit which puts the pressure switch by the harmonic balancer. Since our kit they have a newer version that puts it above the filter with a new made adapter. Other guys on the Vette forum use an extension for an oil pressure gauge and place it on the intake manifold within easy reach, so there are various ways of making this easier to fix next time.

some Vette owners also set up an oil port extension by using a flex plastic or copper (copper is safer) oil pressure gauge line and put the sensor on the intake manifold.
