Could his 03 PCM be used in the 02 truck with a Force Full reflash of the calibration file and the O/S?

BlackGMC said it right. In addition to being a different size, the 03 has a green connector, 02 a red connector. Those connectors are keyed differently than each other which would make it impossible to connect.

OK but 512kb is LESS than 1024kb. I would think that 2002 512kb file would fit in a 1024kb PCM. I realize DBW 1024 cal. file couldnt be used in a non-DBW 512kb PCM.

I do have some new info. A 411 PCM can be used in place of the 243 PCM in a 2004 truck. I know this because its now up and running. We are using a 497kb 2002 L31 Express Van cal.file.

So we are using a 411PCM(512kb MAX) with a 2002 497kb Express/Savanna cal file in a 2004 truck that has an L31 engine that was originally controlled by a 1997 blackbox 192kb PCM. We even used the stock 2004 truck PCM connectors.

PCm's (1024kb or 1.024mb)with service codes
12576106
12586243
12586242
12583560
12583561
12589463
are interchangeable with each other O/S swaps.

The 411 PCM is a 512kb PCM, we directly swapped it in place along with its O/S in place of a 12586243 1024 kb PCM.

just to be clear, the 99-02 and the 03-07 PCM's BOTH have the Blue connector whil ethe 99-02 have a Red connector, while the 03-07 have the green connector.
99-02 512kb BLUE and RED
03-07 1024kb BLUE GREEN

So are we really sure about those connectors really being "keyed"?
Also how come an offboard tuning harness will fit all the 99-08 LSX PCM's, there no break for 99-02 and 03-08,?(the 97-98 LS1 PCM's being the red headed stepchild or course lol)

Yes the red is keyed different than the green for a fact
Best thing to do is just get the correct pcm, they are not expensive

What Charlie said. The reason bench harnesses work is that the serial data pins are on the blue harness only. Same harness works with quite a few other PCMs as well...

Gm list on the 1MB PCms is $464-$514, obviously guys in the know wont buy them from GM. The 411 PCM lists for $277.98.
I am trying to illustrate that there is some flexibility within the 1mb PCM's, and obviously between at least the 243 1mb PCM and the 411 512kb PCM(pinout wise), as a 1mb 243 was pulled out and a 512kb 411 PCM was slipped in.

The internal differences within the 1mb PCM's are due to sourcing and whether the PCM uses Intel brand or AMD brand flash memory.

I am not trying to argue, I just think its imporatant info for those guys who are doing engine swaps and the like, who MAY do a search on this info.

I bid you BOTH a good day.

peace
