I was burned by the local tuner. Melted a piston on the dyno. I have 09 5.3 with trick stage 2 turbo kit installed. New engine is almost in and I need to figure out who i will use to tune the truck now. I know there are sponsors that do it but would like to hear from guys with actual experience with a forced induction tune through the mail. Good or bad. Really cant afford another engine so taking a big risk by putting the turbo back on. I currently have a diablo i2 that i hope can be used to install the tune. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Go with blackbear. Justin is a stand up guy that I personally know. He had been tuning my truck for years with free updates. He will be tuning my truck when I get my turbo installed in the next few weeks.

This is why i think i need to ditch the turbo set up. How do you choose a tuner? One guy says BBP another says no way. I have a lot invested at this point and don't want to give it up but not buying another $3600 engine either.

 

To me there is just too much at stake to deal with a mail order tune. I'd hate to have to do logs, send them in via email and have someone make changes without even being there.

You are at the point of either buying your own tuner and learning this stuff, which is not going to easy because you are jumping into the deep end first. Or just wait a while and get everything done and trailer it somewhere to someone that knows what they are doing.

 

Tune yourself or nothing at all. Setting up a turbo setup with a mail order tune is running blind.

 

So can someone share there tune with me? If someone has a nnbs 5.3 lc9 with a turbo and 80# injectors would that be close enough to get me started? Then I can make small adjustments from there? I am not against learning and the hp software is about the same price as a custom tune. I would just need a safe point to start from. Is this possible or does it not work like that?

 

A remote tune is not a bad thing, but you're going to need hp tuners, so you can do some logging info, then email it to your tuner.... You will have to do this a few times, but you're going to need hp tuners... I would suggest Mitch at TES Total Engine Service in Lubbock Texas... That's who tunes mine and he has my tune, along with many others, that would be a great starting point for your setup. Mitch and Mark are great tuners and work on more high dollar/hp Ls stuff than most. There's plenty of "tooners" in my area, but a 350 mile drive is well worth it for piece of mind in my daily driver being reliable...

 

why couldnt you put the turbo on and not hook up the cold side to the engine then you could drive the truck down to tx or where ever hook up the cold side and have it tuned?
