Default Shift point settings

Using HPT the truck has 3.73's with 30.81 tires. The current settings are 1/2 - 5900 - 35 and 2/3 - 5500 - 68. I want to change the 2/3 to 5800, but im not sure what the MPH on either should be.

Do i really need to be scanning to do this or can it just be changed.

Just leave the mph where it is and change the rpm. Or use a speedo calculator vs tire and gear to figure approx mph for that rpm and set it a few mph shy.

if ur not sure just up the rpm add 2-3 mph and take it for a run.. log the run and c where u shifted.. if ur at 5700 add another mph if it cut off on the shift and it shfted at 5800 take a mile off. this is how i usually do mine.. just my method but im no tuner so i migh be wrong..

leave all the MPH tables stock, and just change the shift by RPM cells. It will shift based on RPM not speed.

While this is how it should work, it does not in some applications. HPT says that in order to shift it must meet both the rpm and mph criteria. So theoretically you could just use the rpm number to set WOT shift points as long as the WOT mph shift points where lower.

Unfortunately, I've tuned more than one vehicle, including my own where this does not alway work. On my truck especially I have to dial in shift points using the mph table. For example, I can command a shift at 6500 rpm (about 60 mph) and 50 mph (about 5000 rpm), it will shift at 5000 rpm. So what I've had to do is set the rpm shift point where I want it and then sneak up on the mph shift point. Once I did this, it shifts exactly where I tell it to every time. My truck has been like this since day one.

Well put sir.

With the 6L80E's they pretty much basically only respond to the shift speed mph settings, changing just the rpm shift point on these trans does next to nothing.

regency, with that gear/tire combo on that truck on the 1-2 shift at 5900 the mph would be about 40 and the 2-3 shift at 5800 would be around 75.
