Default Spark Dwell causing knock?

Since i finally got my wideband and got my ARF dialed i started adding spark. i pulled some spark tables off a tune from the .bin repository. the table was based on 91 octane and stock headers and cats, so i thought i would give it a try with 89 octane and LTs w/ORY. i ran it for about a week with no real problems until one night i got gas and drove home like 2 miles and the next mourning i added 4 points to my spark dwell to try and get a little more mpg and when i pulled onto the road i got some seriously loud knock i didn't have before. Bad gas, or real knock? here is my tune now which is only a hair above the stock timing (still hearing knock) and the spark table that seemd to be ok before.

Sorry, i dont know how to get the spark table into anything but .txt

I can't look at that from work but did you change the dwell back yet to see if the problem goes with it?

I had bad KR issues tweaking my dwell times as well. After all the monkeying around I ended up using the stock settings for dwell.

Ya, all my research concerning spark dwell showed no gains. I believe Parish tried this as well with no success.

well glad to hear that dwell could be the problem. i changed the base dwell time table by adding 4 to the whole thing. i'm not sure of my plug gap, but i just put new TR 55s in less than a week ago. So back to stock it goes. i'll put the higher timing table back in as well. it really was amazing how badly it began to knock just from the dwell. i have heard knock before, but this was so noticeable i heard it over loud music. my first thought was that something came loose under the hood lol.

It makes sense. If you're getting a better/faster burn, less timing would be needed to create the same power.

i added dwell and it got rid of my spark blow out problem. seems like just 2ms and only in the upper rpm/load areas. i cant even remember what that chart looked like.

So parish did you notice any real improvement with the extra dwell. i tried putting it back to stock and adding 2 mS of dwell and that didn't seem to cause any extra knock.
