Default TPS and Tach Signals

O.K., here's my problem:

I am installing some electronics in my that require a square wave signal for engine RPM. I was hoping to tap into a wire that feed the instrument cluster tachometer, but I have not found it yet. Any suggestions?

Also, I need to tap into a Throttle Position Sensor wire in order to monitor throttle position. There appears to be two sensor wires, but I throw a code in the PCM when I tap into either one. This is a fly-by-wire throttle body. What gives?

The white wire leading into the gauge cluster is the tach signal wire -- be aware that it gives a 4 cylinder signal and interpolates it.

Which code are you throwing for the TPS. I used the green wire, btw. Is this for a squirt?

Squirt, meaning the bottle, yes. I tried the green wire and I got code P1221. I also tried the purple wire and got P1220.

Ah, I meant a megasquirt stand alone PCM. I had to put some resistance in the TPS line to even out the signals. The code comes from having TPS 1 read some voltage and TPS 2 read another.

What kind of signal is it? Square wave? How much voltage?

Thanks,

Boo.

Can you elaborate on how you added resistance to even out the signals?

Thanks,

Boo.

I got in because I thought somebody might have pushed me in the direction of the tach pulse wire at the PCM so I can install my window switch and my rev limiting / shift light / digital recall of last and highest rpm achieved.

A little brotherly help here? It's a '00 5.3 1500 4x4. It's a vin T truck.

Need to set this up asap! Thanks.
