Nelson Tune shaved over a second off my 1/4 mile and there's more left in after I do some mods and he re-tunes accordingly, especially the TM and shift points.

GMPP intake,L/T's +ory,3inch exhaust 18'magnaflow and a predator. 2/3 drop and big brake kit. I have not ran it down the track but it could run away and hide from 4.6GT mustangs.

The reasoning behind a custom tune vs. a handheld is that handheld tuners are a "cookie cutter" tune.
1. They may or may not give you the proper settings your engine needs to work optimally with your modifications.
2. Handhelds are limited on which parameters they change. A custom tuner using HP tuners or the like can modify many more variables in the ECM/PCM to get much closer to what your engine needs.

I thought about buying a Diablo handheld just to have the convenience to swap back to stock, but it is limited by the modifications I made to the engine, and to have a custom program written for the Diablo is extra cost. So by that point, you would be almost cheaper to go to a street tune shop.

I am currently on the hot hunt for a tune because I need to go to southern IL next weekend, and my truck can't do it as is.
So far the one's Ive seen are:
BlackBear - lots of good reviews, around $200
Nelson - Lots of good reviews, around $400
PCM4Less - good reviews, around $250
Trifecta - good reviews, around $300
Wheatley - good reviews, around $275

If you have the time, do some comparison shopping.

Why do you want a tune first of all? Not saying you shouldn't get one but what's made you decide to get your truck tuned?
