Default Tuning 96-98 5.7 vortec????

I've heard you can tune these trucks with hp tuners. Is this true? I want another 96-98 silverado and want to do heads, cam, stall, exhaust and daily drive it but want to male sure I can tune it or find someone to before I do everything to one.

Hptuners is capable of tuning the 1998-2000 Vortec 5.7 but will not work on the 96-97 models that have the "black box" PCMs.

You can tune the 98-99 GMT400 trucks, but only Tunercat 2, JET DST, Westers GMT can tune the 96-97 GMT400 trucks. Unless you swap out to a 512kb PCM and then you can install an 01-02 Vortec 350 calibration and use teh other tuner suites to tune.

So my best bet is to find a 98 if I want that body style. I didn't know they did the vortec 350 in the trucks in 99-00 but I'm guessing they did in the work vans.

Why are the 96-98 pcm's different I thought they would all be the same.. Interesting.

Very true but the prices are crazy let me put it this way a 2001 4.8 reg cab with 80k miles is 13k here a 2011 silverado work true with 4.3 and 7k miles was 13.1k here. The 99-07 trucks are crazy here.

If i remember right the 96-98 have 18lb injectors and you cant get aftermarket ones, your best bet is get a 99+ with a 4.3 and swap it out to a 5.3 and dont buy in your state look out of state I found mine in oklahoma for 3 grand less then what I could find in kansas

The stock injectors flow at 23.1 lb/hr at 63 psi.

I have seen Vortec 383's dyno at 330/380 rwhp/tq.

The 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks had L31 available and the 2000 Limited Tahoe was L31.
vans were L31 til 2002.
