Using factory tach with mechanical engine
As the title says I'm swapping an all mechanical 12v Cummins into a 2001 1500 truck which came with the 4.8 and 60e factory, the catch is i want to keep my factory dash cluster fully working and accurate with no warning lights going crazy.
I've got the water/oil/volts handled already and the MPH issue addressed in another thread but the tach has got me stumped, trying to figure out where the tach gets its signal from, i know it is one of two places either the Crank position sensor or cam sensor.
If the crank reluctor ring is where the ecu gets it's signal for the tach then this is an easy fix, simply mount a crank ring and sensor to the front pulley of the Cummins all external like.
If the ecu gets the signal from the cam sensor or a combination of crank and cam then this complicates things bad
So who knows about this matter?

Yea their "flywheel tachometer interface" looks like something i would use and it's fully adjustable but still the question stands as to how i get that signal into the ecu ie where is the rpm wire located, i know somebody on here knows just point me in the right direction I'm kind of a DIY guy
