Want better than just a code reader
I have a Mac Tools code reader but I'm looking for the next step.
I want to be able to communicate with my PCM. I want to see when it goes form open loop to closed loop or read saved codes or number of misses.
Does anyone offer a GM specific for 05 rigs
Heard you can get programs to use in a lap top.
I'm not interested in doing any adjustment, just want to be able to pull data

If you really want to know what is going on without tuning I'd recommend getting an aeroforce gauge. They work great, you can monitor pretty much everything. It displays 2 parameters at at time. Has programable warning lights or shift lights and can clear codes if need be.

That sounds interesting, will look into it further.
The reason I'm asking this is yesterday I put my suburban on the scanner and I had a
P0300 and we could then see how many misfires I had on each cylinder.
Found that interesting and drew some curiosity
I'm afraid if I get something into tuning I could screw something up

Maybe this will help. I'm not computer saavy at all. Heck, I can barely open email or send it. I know how to use internet, but PT & ebay are usually what I go on anyway. If I have to do a document, since I can't type & I don't really do documents, it's so infrequent, I have to learn process all over. Then at end of doc, I say, "Wow, I'm gettin good at this." And that ends til the next doc a year or so later.
That said, yes, tuning yourself can get u into trouble. It can, but... if u tune yourself, do 1 thing at a time.
I can't comment on Aeroforce Interceptor. But HPTuners has a basic version for IIRC, $399. It'll scan. Don't know if it'll clear codes too, but I think so. But then again, I've the HPT Pro. I've used it mostly to view/ clear codes. I've used it on several vehicles for that. I also tuned for my tires for speedo correction. By next weekend, I'll use it when I add '05 efans.
EFILive may offer a basic setup like HPT as well. Also, not sure what u thought you'd spend. Hope it helps.

For a 2005, the EFILive V1 Scan only cable would provide more than enough data-logging and diagnostic information to keep you busy. It retails for $250 and information can be found here: http://www.efilive.com/index.php?opt...119&Itemid=128
and here:

If you are interested, I'd be glad to discuss things with you.

For a stand alone scanner there are many options. I currently have an AutoXray and it's a pretty decent option for under $300. Other relatively inexpensive scan tools include Actron and Equus(sp?). There are others too but I can't think of them off of the top of my head. Some range from low to mid $100's to $300, to over $500 depending on what's supported (generic, domestic, asian, OBDI, OBDII, etc.)

The scan tool will allow you to diagnose and repair the cause of the code without needing to tune the vehicle, as well as verifying the repair and clearing the code when the repair is completed. We at the dealerships don't have tuning capability and diagnose and repair vehicles all day long. Not everybody needs to shell out $500 for tuning software that they don't have the time to learn how to use
