Default where to start with tuning!?

im new to 5.3 performance and was wondering how everyone tunes there trucks..ive read up on everything and noticed you pretty much have to retune ur truck for everything you add to it. i was going to put in a 3600 stall, but found out it wont be driveable without a tune..and i dont have a tuner close to me..problem is i plan on doing my build one part at a time pretty much..and that would mean running back and forth to my tuner everytime i decide to put a part on..am i right?? i hope i just misunderstood.. tuning sounds like the big issue.

That is why tuning software should be the first mod. Expect days of your life lost to learning though. Black bear or Wheatley can give you a solid mail order tune. Not sure where you got the info that a stall needs a tune. My 04 ran great on a stall, vette servo and a HD2 shift kit.

yeah, im on the southside. i know danville efi live tunes. i plan on goin there, then after researching performance upgrading, it seems like no matter what upgrade you do, it needs tuned. so id have to make several trips there..im thinking of just buying my own software.

The truth is nobody knows. Most likely you would be fine , but it could set a code and put your transmission shifting in a safe mode. I have seen many fine , but one 04 SS needed tuning just to run right.

Never heard of them before, mike norris motorsports is on the NE side and have heard good things about them before, thinking about going there myself.
I started doing the mail order thing and still am doing it. kinda wish i would of went another route, but thats not because of bad tune or anything, mostly for convenience and availability..
If i had it to do over again knowing what i know now, i would get the tuning software myself and have a competent tuner sends the files while learning it yourself..
just my 2cents
