Hog Gun!?
I was able to do some trading this past week, and came out smelling like a rose IMO. I picked up a Rock River .458 socom upper for my $500 5.56 16" upper. I plan on building a complete .223 gun out of some billet receivers, so it works out good.

If you dont reload prepare to go broke feeding that thing if you shoot it much. Thats probably the caliber Id go with if I was looking for a heavy hitter in an AR platform.
If you plan on getting any NFA items you might want to think about getting those ***** rolling in case Obama gets re-elected. No telling what will happen with gun laws if that happens.

No first hand experience but from the videos Ive seen of people shooting them they dont look bad at all. The buffer spring is still the same so it cant be too much worse. These things are about like the old 444 marlins, big, heavy, slow round that packs a punch but has a very limited range.

I am going to build me another 5.56 upper too. I am going to build it just like the last one but with a different handguard and BCG. I like the Green Mountain barrels. They are nice for a button rifle. I will have no need for cut rifle.

Geez,, i just saw Cheaperthandirt had SBR 458 ammo in stock.. $61.09 for a box of 20...
$3.05 per shot, and i thought 50BMG was expensive.
Ive shot the 450 bushmaster in a M4 type setup and it was a stout thud, bout like a light weight 20ga single shot.
Since you come out ahead on the trade,, you could always sell/trade the 458 and have everything you need to do your next 5.56?

On a side note, it is lighter than what I expected it to be. I guess all the bull barrel weight got taken out with the large hole thru the center of the barrel
