Home Defense Shotgun Advice
So I have a couple questions and need some Advice regarding home defense shotguns. And you guys seem pretty knowledgeable about such things.
I currently Have 4 Shotguns. 3 of them are for competition and 1 of them is an 870 express 20ga that was my first gun ever that I got when I was 8. We had to cut down the stock to fit me. I have been thinking about getting a home defense shotgun and Im trying to decide what to do. My view on Shotgun is if you are going to use it, cheap is not the way to go.
I was thinking since I already have a 20ga that Im not using I could put a new stock on it, get a shorter barrel, and add the 3 round extension, and I would have a pretty neat home defense gun that my wife could use if she had too, and it would put my first gun to good use.
I could also just buy a cheap home defense shotgun like the Maverick 88, seeing as it is something I really hope to never have to use, a cheap one would not be such a big deal.
So what option would you guys pick? If I do go with the first one, does anyone know of a good place to get a short barrel for a 20ga 870? I have found one place that has one, but it is always out of stock and Im looking for other options. Also does anyone know where to find a tactical/ home defense stock for a 20ga 870? I have seen lots for the 12ga, but none for the 20ga and the 20ga is the small frame 870

Bro use that Remington and mod it like you say .it will be awesome , just get some buck shot or some #4 shot , it will do the job .
I love my 870 12ga , dead nuts reliable and easy to shoot , two things you want in a home defense gun . I'm in the process of converting it to strictly home defense , but she does have my slug barrel on full of buckshot ready to go , if my .45 doesn't get em first.

All my shotguns are to hunt with but I keep a slug barrel on my Mossberg 835 Ulti-mag and keep her loaded up with 1oz hollow points when it's at the house. A 3 1/2" shell shooting a 1oz slug will catch you off guard, so be careful The only time I've ever had to use it was actually at the boat ramp after a hunting trip. Saw a guy breaking into my brothers truck as we were pulling up to load the boat and I broke and run. He saw me and was gone before I could get a shot on him but I was about to fill an *** cheek up with BlackCloud Steel shot. Not to mention he probably had plenty of time because I was running in insulated chest waders

Why do you need tactical stuff on a home defense gun? I'll never understand that.
The last show I went to there was an 870 with collapsible stock, bipod, acog, rails.... Just all kinds of junk that was completely useless. A plain short barrel 870 with wood stocks and factory bead sight is just as effective if not moreso, as one that's got flashlights, doodads, and a bunch of other stuff that may or may not complicate the use of the thing.
I don't know, I don't understand the pimp my ride shotguns I see, there's my rant for today, sorry fellas.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will have to weigh the options.
Im having a hard time finding a stock for a 20ga 870. I found a youth model at Cabelas and thats it. And its going to cost about $250 to upgrade my 870, and I can get a Mossberg or Maverik for that, and I can get another 870 home defense for not much more.

Whats wrong with the small stock thats on it now??
Not like your goin to be using it in competition.. Speed is your ultimate goal in a home defense situtaion!!
The only two rules you need is
#1 have a gun
#2 make sure that gun functions
nothing else matters.
My dad keeps a Winchester Ranger 120 by his bed. Its got a 19" barrel and a 8 shot extension. Loaded with 7 Agulia slugs and 4 2.75" 00 buck. Nothing fancy, we got it at a gun show back in 2001 for $90. I shot it in Competition up in Pennsylvania. The summer before i put right at 8000 rounds thru it in practice.
and on random weekends it might have 500-1000 rds put thru it.. so yea i trust it.
but i keep my carry pistol and my "hunting rifle" loaded beside my bed.
