Not like your goin to be using it in competition.. Speed is your ultimate goal in a home defense situtaion!!

The only two rules you need is
#1 have a gun
#2 make sure that gun functions

nothing else matters.

My dad keeps a Winchester Ranger 120 by his bed. Its got a 19" barrel and a 8 shot extension. Loaded with 7 Agulia slugs and 4 2.75" 00 buck. Nothing fancy, we got it at a gun show back in 2001 for $90. I shot it in Competition up in Pennsylvania. The summer before i put right at 8000 rounds thru it in practice.
and on random weekends it might have 500-1000 rds put thru it.. so yea i trust it.

but i keep my carry pistol and my "hunting rifle" loaded beside my bed.
The stock is super super short, it was cut down to fit me when I was 8. I guess the short stock would come in handy since speed is the goal in home defense. I could just get a 18 inch barrel and a 3 round extension and be done.

Being a shot gun, put it in the general direction and let it fly, lol. I have staggered 4 shot, buck shot using a modified choke, put the bead on it, it's going down..

I grew up using the Model 31 Remington, used the 870 in the Navy (SAF), and since have only had the 870 (basic express) for 12 gauge minded hunting and the Remington SP-10 for goose/duck killing. I'd love to fire a 10 gauge off at home intruder. haha But I agree, keep the short stock, screw it. You are setting it up for her anyways. Fast fast fast fast reaction. The less physical things you need to do to eliminate your hazard the better.

Still have that Model 31. Man that thing pumps like hot butter across warm steel. Love it. Love.

I have a Stoeger Coachgun beside my bed for that. But if I was building one it'd be an 870 Wingmaster. 14" Dlask barrel. A big fiber optic bead. And an 870P wood stock set.

Here's mine...Mossberg 500. I had it loaded with 00 Buckshot for awhile, then found the stuff pictured below, a slug and 3 pellets together in 1 shot. And yes, I have used the flashlight before when "hunting" strange noises in the middle of the night
