Love my Ruger X-17, used it many times for much larger game than its intended for and taken prairie dogs out past 300yds tons of times. Its definitely a hot little round thats a blast to shoot.

I never caught on to it all that great. Ammo cost and availability around here sucks.
I can shoot 223 for cheaper.

And my 22 is much much quieter haha

Mine is a marlin also. I like to blow up turtles at 125+ yards. I have been told it will turn a hogs head into a sack of broken glass thru the ear hole. Ammo is not bad at all here, $11.97 for winchester 17 grain poly tip per 50 rds. I put 600 rds in the safe since Christmas, buying a little at a time.

Its definitely not a practical round, if you reload 223 is cheaper and better ballistically, 22lr is a ton cheaper and quieter but not as good ballistics wise. Its just a fun cartridge to me. Setting up on a prairie dog town and blasting away at 300yds with a rimfire is just cool. You have to make all the adjustments of a fast centerfire cartridge at 1000yds for a 300yd shot. I plan to put a mildot scope on mine to practice for longer range shooting.

I still havnt been converted from my 22 mag. We have a lot of rimfire/shotgun/archery areas only here. Theres tons of coyotes to shoot and the 22 mag dose a pretty good job. But i did just pick up a Coyote choke for the 870!

In has a .17 for prolly 10 years now it seems like. Used to have tons of fun with it shooting varmints and turtles in the swamps. Don't really shoot it a lot anymore though
