Well hope they sort out your problem with the scope. From what I have read they usually do a good job replacing them. Yea wind is very evil. I was surprised as to now much effect it had on us at 600 yards last weekend. They are having a wind reading class at the same range I went to later this month. If I can happen to get a scope I am going to try like heck to make it.

I was also very amazed at how much elevation correction was needed when going from horizontal mirage to boiling. It definitely made for some head scratching shots before I was explained that one.

As I understand it, the boiling mirage refracts the light slightly causing your point of aim to raise a bit. Therefore you end up aiming at a target which is lower than what you see. At 1000 with fairly heavy mirage I noticed it to be between .75 and 1 moa. IIRC there was also something similar about shooting in the sun and having a cloud come over and having to aim about 1 moa high but I could be wrong about the direction because it stayed sunny all weekend. I'm sure one of the more experienced guys can chime in.

Edit: I assume when the mirage is horizontal the refraction would be horizontal but the effect would be lost in the wind call.

Its known as Lights up, dial up.

Think bout looking down at water and seeing a fish. Its not where you see it, its lower. Ever been bow fishing?
